To try to emphasise driving kicking from the hip joint and to get Glutes to work really hard, we do this drill from time to time with our swimming athletes.
Good one to do in warm up if you have a bench that you can do with. You need to work on keeping your trunk (hip to shoulder) STILL whilst kicking into hip extension! Use your hips, NOT your knees here.
I see some people using bands etc. I prefer not to with these drills. If you do this right, it works hard! Its a skill-based drill just as much as a kicking endurance drill. Bands generally to me just screw up the skill application.
